Installation of charging points

How to install new columns and what permissions are required.

The Interministerial Decree No 8090 of 3 August 2017 identifies the declarations, certificates, certifications and technical documents to be submitted in support of the Certified Activity Start Report (SCIA), for the construction of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

Charging points in buildings and private areas, also open to public use

The deployment of recharging points is considered free activity, not subject to authorisation or Certified Start of Business Reporting (SCIA) if the following requirements and conditions are met:

  • the recharging point does not require a new connection to the electricity distribution network, nor a modification of the existing connection;
  • the recharging point complies with current technical and safety standards;
  • the installation of the recharging point is carried out by an authorised entity and in compliance with electrical safety standards;
  • The installer shall issue a certificate of conformity of the installation and its operation.

Tax advantages for the installation of the columns

If a private individual or a condominium wishes to install a private column for charging electric vehicles in their appliances, the expenditure is eligible for tax deduction on the IRPEF, similarly to the expenditure on building renovation.
