Cities 30 | Slow down for a greener and safer city

Discover the ‘Cities 30’ initiative: limiting speed to 30 km/h to promote road safety, reduce pollution and improve the quality of urban life.

Safety and quality of urban life are at the heart of the City 30 project. Reducing speeds up to 30 km/h in residential areas and urban centres is an important step to make our roads safer and reduce pollution. This initiative is designed for everyone: citizens, pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, to build together a greener and more livable city!

Benefits of the initiative

  • Increased security for all – Slowing down traffic means reducing the risk of accidents, especially for pedestrians, children and the elderly.
  • Pollution reduction – The decrease in fast traffic leads to less CO2 emissions, contributing to a cleaner and healthier city.
  • More livable roads – With less noise and traffic, our streets become more pleasant places to walk, play and enjoy public space.

How does it work?

The ‘Cities 30’ initiative provides that in residential areas, in the vicinity of schools and other sensitive areas, the maximum speed for vehicles is limited to 30 km/h. This feature will not only apply to main roads, but also to secondary streets where pedestrians and cyclists are most vulnerable.

Every citizen can make the city even safer and more sustainable, signaling important situations for the community and areas of the territory that could improve by implementing the 30 km / h limit for circulation.
